Bird cage

Four Part Expandable Bird House
Model of a scalable Birdcage constructed from four 3D printed parts and dollar store wood "Shish Kabob skewers". Door opens and swings.
This is a basic design that I used for a narrow shelf decoration,
but it can scaled up just by adding more cross beams.
You can line these up in different directions, add back rooms, make a maze, expand out or add floors...
The real fun of this project was to design the decorations. I haven't included any of mine since I like the look of the project plain and everyone has their own design taste.
Tips for assembly:
- Use acetone: ABS plastic from the left over support structures 2:1 mix to glue weld the parts.
- use an alignment tray to make sure all the angles 90 degrees.
-use the full arch placed first to support the quarter arches against long place holder wood bars.
Suggestions for decorations that you might consider include the following:
- Front steps
- Finials for columns
- Ridged half columns for front center part
- Windows with frames
- Roof Peak decorations
- Roof Ridge with spacers for crossover wires
- Bell tower or widow's peak
- Use metal wires instead of wood for walls and roof
- Flag pole with pennants
- Mail box
- Lamp post
- Eve decorations for arches
- Ridge peaks
Ideas for "better" versions of this basic design:
- Open bottom tray for cleaning, if you keep anything alive in one of these.
- Roll arcs of copper wires to cross over roof instead of long way wood beams.
- Add a few LEDs to the inner roof beams
