Summary

I tried to print the "z endstop adjuster.stl" however it always came out horribly. Attributing this to the fact that it's tiny with 2 M3 holes and nut traps I instead made my own with an integrated flag. This removes an M3 bolt & nut and takes only a little longer to print.

Parts Required

1 off 3D printed "Cantilever Z Flag.stl"
3 off M3x20mm bolts
3 off M3 nut
2 off 5mm M3 standoffs
~70mm of black electrical insulation tape

Instructions

Slice and print "Cantilever Z Flag.stl".
Insert the M3 nut in the nut trap making sure that it is fully seated inside so that the M3 thread lines up with the 2 holes.
Check that the flag triggers the opto-endstops.
a. You may need to apply some tape in order to block the IR light from the endstops. Black electrical insulating tape works well.
If you've alread assembled your cantilevered Z stage you will need to remove it and remove the top plate. Then remove the current z flag assembly.
Fit the new z flag in place making sure to line the 3mm holes all line up.
Replace the top plate and then the cantilevered Z stage in your Cupcake.
You may need to use the white 5mm stand offs that came with your Makerbot Cupcake to correctly align the z flag and the z axis opto endstop.
a. You will need M3x20mm bolts to do this.
Check your printer then turn on and print test cubes until you've calibrated your Z axis.
