Zoetrope laser cut

These are templates for making a laser cut zoetrope from cardboard and thin wood. I used a small ball-bearing for rotation. They snap inside the base plate, the smallest circle fits inside the bearing. This one I screwed with some glue to the bottom plate.

The images you can print on paper and glue inside te drum.

Position of the images and slots:

  • Slots above the image gives a better angle to watch.
  • Slots are positioned above the image with an even amount of images, so that it is opposite the image.
  • Slots are positioned in between the images or, that position above the line of images, so that the slot is opposite an image.

Mind aswell:

'The slots along the side wall/drum are like shutters. When our eyes look through the slots, they require a certain amount of exposure to light. These slots must be evenly spaced around the cylinder, and there should be an equal number of slits to images (1:1). A reasonable width for the slots is approximately 1/8th of an inch. Any smaller and the image won't register, any larger and the image will persist in the eye for too long.' Reframing Photography
