Using two Sprint phones running on WIMAX and using Skype, this little adapter makes for a rather cool toy.

DISCLAIMER: If your phone ends up flying off into oblivion, don't get mad at me. This can be a very bad idea.

I recently gained access to a DJI Phantom Quadcopter, and have been having a lot of fun with it. After seeing some of the offerings for POV equipment and their insane prices, I figured there has to be a cheaper way. Using two Android phones and Skype downloaded on both, connect the phones on a video call, slide into the holder and let someone watching enjoy the craziness of flying in seemingly first person point of view. Use forward facing camera to wave or make lewd gestures at complete strangers as they watch you fly your quadcopter! Can be printed and used to have phone capture video as well, but that doesn't seem as fun to me.

I printed two of the phone holders, and sandwiched them around the DJI phantom base. Then using a 3/16th diameter bolt with wing nut tightened to assure firm grip.

This base and the phone holder attached are compatible with the 'arms' on another thing of mine (found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34566). However it shouldn't be necessary.

The holes measure 18mm apart (from center) and are 5mm in diameter if you would like to make your own phone holder. Simply measure your phones exterior dimensions and copy a similar design to mine.

There are two 'bases' attached to this, the DJIPhantomBase has been tested, and held up a 15 minute test flight. The 'DJIPhantomBaseRotating' is a remix that was thought up after, but has yet to be tested. It should be more sturdy, though.

The phone holders were printed at 20% infill, and the base was printed at 50% infill.
