Project: Six Inch Ruler

Objectives

            <div><p>We hoped by creating this students around schools could have a small ruler of their own to use in math class without having to go to the store and buy one. </p></div>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Audiences</strong></p>            <div><p>This ruler was made with students in mind, but it could be helpful to people of all ages. Whether they want an accurate measurement or they want assistance in drawing a straight line, it is up to them. </p></div>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Preparation</strong></p>            <div><p>There really is no prior knowledge needed to use this ruler besides knowing how to read and use all other standard rulers. </p></div>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Steps</strong></p>            <div><p>1.) We defined the problem at hand: What would be useful to a teacher or student that we could make on a 3D printer?<br>2.) We came up with different ideas that we thought could possibly work.<br>3.) We narrowed down our ideas and did research on what had already been done and what it would take to make one.<br>4.) We defined the criteria and constraints that would be present while making this.<br>5.) We looked at which ideas of ours could work.<br>6.) We decided our best idea was to make a ruler.<br>7.) We created a design proposal to give to our teacher.<br>8.) We created the ruler on Inventor and printed out a prototype.<br>9.) We looked at what had been printed out and decided what needed to be fixed.<br>10.) We changed what we thought was needed and resubmitted the idea.<br>11.) Our final draft was printed out on the 3D printer.<br>12.) We posted the ruler to the competition and gave it to our teacher.</p></div>
