Tafl Games (With OpenSCAD source)

This is an OpenSCAD generator for Tafl boards and pieces for playing 6 of the variants of the Tafl games played by the Norse and Celtic peoples. Boards have raised tiles by type so you can change filament in print to alter the colors.

From lowest to highest Normal Square -> Attacker Pawn -> Defender Pawn -> Corner -> Throne.

I plan on doing more board variants and pieces as well as styles of boards so keep an eye out for those in the future.

Brandubh

This 7x7 variant was played in Ireland and was mentioned twice in poetry.

Ard Ri

This 7x7 variant is a reconstruction of a possible Scottish tafl game.

Tablut

This 9x9 variant is the best recorded variant having recorded partial rules by Carl Linnaeus in 1732

Tawlbwrdd

This 11x11 variant was played in Wales and was sparsely documented in 1587 by Robert ap Ifan.

Hnefatafl

This is an 11x11 reconstruction of tafl as it was played by the vikings. The Fetlar rules were used for the Hnefatafl World Championships on the Shetland island Fetlar. The Copenhagen rules(An attempt to address shortcomings of the Fetlar rules) are used for the Internet Hnefatafl Championships.

Alea Evangelii

This massive 19x19 variant was documented by a 12th century Anglo-Saxon manuscript. This board's piece placement is in the style of the Murray reconstruction. The layout can be reconfigured using the source if desired.
