Summary

This is an adjustable venture that will allow students to measure flow rate, lift and pressure ratio's to start learning fluid dynamics. it can use any fluid compatible with the printing substrate as the motive.

How I Designed This

Venturi Design

            <div><p>This was designed in Tinkercad with entry and exit angles based on Escbach, Handbook of Engineering Fundamentals, 3rd Edition, 1975. This was made as an alternative to a submersible pump due to its properties that allow it to pass debris. </p></div>

Project: Adjustible Venturi

            <div><p>Objectives: I expect students to learn alternative ways to create suction and lift allowing them to have a better grasp of fluid dynamics.<br>◦Audiences: List the grades, ages, or skill levels that would be appropriate for this Project.<br>◦Preparation: Motive source, substrate to be moved and collection container. they will also require 3/8'" I.D. tubing.<br>◦Steps: The first design proved that the motive could not create suction due to not having enough direction.  In MK2 a separate motive nozzle was added for calibration and control of flow. I highly recommend a brief introduction to venture design before the lab.<br>◦Results: I run this at 0.017 mpa and achieve approximately 4 gallons of fluid movement daily.  This can of course be increase with more motive though I would print in in 100% infill for stability. This has proven to be a great resource for an indoor greenhouse that is a recirculating deep water culture allowing fresh produce year round in the northern environment.</p></div>
