Summary

This is a small clamp designed to clip a low-cost laser pointer onto your open-frame printer chassis. When used as instructed, you can get your Z-Axis to be at the perfect height before starting any print.

Instructions

Get a Wal-Mart cheap laser point ($2.47) and clip this to your printers frame in the upper-right corner. Place the rubber laser button into the cradle and rotate the laser in place until the cradle pushes against the button.

With the printer bed hot, and the printhead hot, press the home button. Once the head is at home, adjust the laser so that the beam bounces off your bed and onto the ceiling - this will amplify all the movements the bed makes.

Now, while watching the beam spot on the ceiling, press the home button and watch. If the printhead touches the bed, the bed will move a little bit (mine is mounted on aluminum l-braces with magnets), and this will cause the beam-spot to move. The movement is amplified so that even slight movements will make a reflection change.

Adjust your Z-Axis endstop upwards and press home again. Repeat until this is little or no moment.

Then print and see how your first layer works out.
