LOV1 Domain Phototropin

This LOV1 (light, oxygen, or voltage) domain is modeled after the PDB entry 2z6c, and was manipulated visually in VMD software. LOV1 is part of the Phototropin protein, which is responsible for sensing changes in blue light,and this particular LOV1 was isolated from Arabidopsis thaliana. This print is just the A chain of the LOV1 homodimer, it is aligned asymmetrically with the B chain in "face-to-face association of the Beta-scaffolds" by a disulfide bridge and other bonds. The nucleotides that make up the active site are shown in CPK, and these nucleotides bind to a flavin mononucleotide (FMN) that absorbs blue light. The LOV1 domain in general is thought to be responsible for dimerization of Phototropin1 and Phototropin2, and regulating sensitivity to blue light activation.
