Hybrid ogoo-printed small robot wheel

A hybrid ogoo/printed wheel for a small robot.

I am in the process of building a small 3-wheeled arduino nano controlled robot. This is the rear wheel (free-wheeling). It has a diameter of 30mm.

The wheel consists of a printed 2-part hub and ogoo tire molded in place. The molding forms are supplied as well. The hub halves are 6-sided for form-fitting the ogoo after curing. The mold halves are filled with ogoo while the hub halves are already in place. After curing, the complete wheel can be removed from the mold. I use it with a brass 4mm OD / 3mm ID tube as bearing and a 3mm screw as axle. The wheel dimensions are 30mm x 20mm (OD x axial width).

The radial offset in the example ogoo wheel halves comes from me not aligning the mold halfes properly and is therefore not by design.

ogoo is a cheap and easy to use DIY silicone caulk based molding material, see: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/
