A strappy laser-cut iPhone 5 stand

This is a laser-cut iPhone stand I made on a laser cutter out of silicone. Turns out that silicone is a terrible material to laser-cut – it's very heat-resistant – and I had to finish it off with a craft knife. It did engrave nicely, though. I used 4mm silicone.

I'd seen a friend's stand that was a rubber strap, but couldn't find somewhere to buy one. So I made one instead. It works OK, but isn't all that useful – iOS doesn't have a landscape mode on the iPhone, and a lot of apps don't have one either. I also find my iPad way more useful as a second screen.

That said, the nice thing about a rubber strap stand is that it's super-cheap, it's very robust so you can just throw it in your bag or pencil case, and it's got a high coefficient of friction so your phone won't skitter around your desk if you try to use it by touch.

I wrote some more about this stand on my blog.
