Small Fume Hood for Soldering or even a 3D Printer

Ever get tired of the usual bulky fume hoods getting in the way when you are soldering a circuit board? Yep, that's what inspired this design. ...and, had an extra 40mm fan laying around...

It looks kind odd. I'll have to admit. But, that oddity is exactly what makes it versitile.

It works fine. I am still waiting on a charcol filter that I can insert into the slot just in front of the fan. As a note, the 2 little open mesh filter supports will go on either side of this filter and then inserted into the slot. Thought I might put some extra filter material into the hollow body once it arrives.

What else? Oh, it doesn't slice exactly right for me. Had to sand the surface where the fan mounts. You can see the artifacts in the one image. Also, the fan mounting holes are a bit off, but everytime I tried to make changes, the slicing render got worse. :-(

Sadly, guess I need to find a better design tool than Sketchup. It is fine for simple designs, but add in a couple of stacked elements and it starts to export to STL terribly. IMHO.

Anyways... Hope it is useful to someone.

Have a great day.
Bill.
