Fractions Roll

These fraction "rolls" for beginning math (early grades) allow students to comprehend the relationships between the fractions and their relative sizes -- 1/2 is greater than 1/4 -- a concept that is difficult for younger students to grasp.

Students slip the rolls onto a bar which is anchored onto a sturdy base, "adding" and "subtracting" different fractions.

The rolls fit onto the bar, perfectly covering the bar when the fractions add up to 1 (a whole). This allows students to see different combinations of fractions and how they might or might not be related.

The instructor can mark up the bar to create different challenges.
