Summary

This is an adapter cable that lets you use normal headphones with Google Glass and a 3d printed mount to hold the adpater in place. The 3d printed mount keeps the headphone plug behind your ear but more importantly, isolates the micro-USB from mechanical stress.

Instructions

To use regular headphones with Google Glass, you need a micro-USB to 3.5mm plug adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMDGSX6/ . A 500K ohm resistor must be soldered between pins 4&5. The USB side of the cable I received above could be opened by unsnapping some latches (providing easy access to the back-side of the usb connector), but your mileage may vary. After soldering in the resistor, I used heat-shrink tubing to cover the resistor and enlarged hole I had to make to get everything closed again.

I printed the clip with .4mm layer height using ABS so the curved arms had some flexibility. Because the hot-bed contact area is small, you may need to use a brim. I also needed to use a fan to get the print to look decent. The 3.5mm plug snaps into the curved part of the object, and the rectangular opening slides over the fat end of the Glass.
