In Government class we were assigned to do a mystery artifact project for a president of our choice. Once you have a president you have to research them to find something significant about them that we could make into a 3-D object.

Clues

1) I heard that my President fought in the Mexican-American War.
2) He was a respected president because of his ties with the war.
3) My President didn’t not last very long in office; he died shortly after being elected.

The Object:
A chair on top of a row of skulls

Pre-Executive Action:
The chair perched atop the skulls is to symbol President Zachary Taylor fighting in the Mexican-American war. The reasoning behind him sitting in the chair on top of the skulls is to depict the lives lost in the war. The skulls are there to represent the Mexican-American War casualties that happened during the fight.
Executive Action: ***Find out what Taylor did with Mexico once President, hint slavery

Impact of the United States:
The war was thought of as a “Manifest Destiny” by US president Polk who fought alongside with Taylor. When the war was over Mexico had lost 1/3 of its territory which included California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. After the war was over the United States soldiers were happy because they had fought the Mexicans and they had won and had gained new territory.
