Summary

A quick test of modeling to 3d print workflow, using iPad app called iDough. This print was run on my MB Replicator at 0.2 mm slicing, cleaned up in Netfab to flatten the base. Used iDough as the mesh creation source.

Instructions

25 years after art school, 22 years after learning CAD, and 10 years after learning gcode, I would have never conceived that it would be possible to model complex organic geometry on a handheld device and hold a physical output in my hand 90 minutes later at such a low cost.

Instructions:

install iPad app iDough, $6.99. Fiddle with, learn interface tools. (10 min)
create model (2 mins- to hours...how much work depends on you)
export .obj file via email from iPad to PC.
convert obj to stl in Netfab, make any edits. I trimmed the bottom flat. (3- 5 mins)
open stl in ReplicatorG, slice with Skeinforge. (15 min?- didn't watch clock)
print on MB Replicator (1 hour, 39 minutes)
