Solder Smoke Filter Fan 80mm
This is a single piece box. It's designed for a standard 12v, 80mm computer case fan and 1-2 pieces of flat carbon filter. Filters are cheap and most everyone has an old non-working computer with a fan laying around.
The carbon filter material is the same type you get as a replacement for fume hoods used for solder smoke/fume extraction. You can easily cut the filter material with scissors to fit in the box.
Once printed, slip a layer of carbon filter into the box, then slip in the fan. The fan screws into the back of the box using the same screws you would use with a computer.
The fan holds the filter in place. You may need to squish the fan side of the filter into the box a little if the blades scrape the filter when spinning. I only had to do this on first install. In several months, the filter has not moved back to touch the fan. Depending on your filter thickness, you may have more difficulty with scraping.
With a regular 12V fan, this thing really sucks away the fumes. You can see a line of smoke going straight off the soldering iron into the filter. Just set the fan next to where you're soldering and off goes the smoke.
I printed some feet that clip into the bottom, but that hasn't worked out so well yet. A better way to prop up or hold the box at an angle near the work would be better.
