Summary

I've been wanting to make some fun, happy sunshine glasses and here they are.

I was inspired by many hinge designs before using this type. I like that it helps prevent the earpieces from completely breaking if you drop or sit on them accidentally..

Post-Printing

I used a piece of curved cardboard and a heat gun to lightly curve the face of the frames. I also heated up the earpieces and pressed them to the outside of my reading glass earpieces so they would have the same standard shape. Make sure to let them cool enough before setting them down.

And also be careful with a heat gun, they can cause serious burns on your fingers if you get them too close. I used a pair of pliers to hold the pieces when heating them up. Also I recommend using a piece of tile to place the pieces on while using the heat gun. Ceramic tile will help dissipate the heat and prevent you from burning your tabletop.

How I Designed This

I used Fusion 360 to design and export the .stl files. I used Meshmixer to mirror the right ear piece and export the left ear piece .stl. I used my reading glasses and a digital caliper to get the right measurements so it was similar to standard eyeglass frames.
