Summary

Youtuber Maker's Muse (on thingiverse) showed a "ball" based on the Reuleaux triangle on his channel... and fellow 3d printing enthusiasts clamored for a bearing based on it.

His video was a good first start, and while he couldn't see any way forward, I think I might have. This is my attempt at a roller bearing using "Reuleaux" bearings.

Assembly

The complete model likely cannot be printed on an FDM printer. It will pretty much require support material that can be dissolved.

This is not needed.

Print two each of the inner and outer races as well as two of the cage rings.

Print twelve each of the reuleaux bearings and the cage sections.

The cage ring has twelve indents that should allow the cage sections to register with the rings and twelve counter sunk holes for M3 counter sunk screws through each ring.

Six holes in each race are sized to 2.4 mm in diameter, this is for threading for an M3 screw. The other six holes are designed to be able to allow a counter sunk M3 screw to pass through. I have designed the two halves of each of the races to be rotated one twelfth of a rotation to allow six screws to pass in from each side and thread into the threaded portion of the other side.

The reuleaux bearings can be placed into an assembled cage and then this can be sandwiched with the inner and outer races.

My printer is currently offline to replace the damaged controller board so I have not printed it out.
