Summary

This is a large simple hex wrench. While rebuilding my toilet I found that I needed to remove a 3" nut but I did not have a wrench that big. Instead of running out to Lowes buying a wrench I laser cut one out of plywood that did the job perfectly!

Instructions

The attached files make a wrench for a but that measures 3" from flat to flat (as opposed to tip to tip). The .hpgl is for device with 1000dpi. If you need a wrench of a different size, edit the width_f2f variable in the .scad file and re-export the dxf!

edit the .scad file in openscad
export as dxf
import dxf file into inkscape and scale by .0254 while importing.
edit if necessary
export as .hpgl and send it over to your trusty laser cutter!

I made two of these while fixing my toilets. One was 3" and one was 2.5", both cut out of 1/4" plywood. They stood up to quite a bit of force to get the nuts free. I have to say that I was skeptical that the wood would hold up.
