diagonal cutter sheath

Why

My wife asked for a sheath to cover the sharp end of the diagonal cutters she carries in her purse.

I did the design in OpenSCAD, a free open source tool that takes ordinary text files as input.

A word about OpenSCAD

To adjust this for your use, comment out most of the modules and add a call to cutter() at the end of the file. Now adjust the CUTTER_X, CUTTER_Y, and CUTTER_Z values for your cutter or pliers. When you have the model of the cutter to your liking, uncomment the modules you commented out to get the full model. Render, and Save As STL.

second thoughts

I should have printed the 'hole', the negative cutter model, in vase mode, just as quick check that I got the size right. This print came out close enough, so I didn't need to have bothered, but it's a nice cheap pre-check.

Third thoughts

April 2019 I just cut the notches off, engaged the spring on the nippers, and the spring tension makes the jaws press against the inside of the case strongly enough.

next steps

This could easily be converted to a Customizer.

Rather than using 'buttons' and a rubber band, this could be redesigned to use springy pieces of the part to lock into the notch in the cutter.
