Yosemite Valley's Cathedral Rocks
This is a very detailed 3d topo of Yosemite Valley's Cathedral Spires. The model is so detailed that you can clearly see the ledge on the classic climbing route on Lower Cathedral Spire.
I made it from a LIDAR dataset collected to study nitrogen export and made available on http://opentopo.sdsc.edu/. The LIDAR point cloud was gridded to a 0.5m resolution.
You can see my tutorial video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzwybr65I9o
The print took 18 hrs. It was sliced with Simplify3d at default high quality settings and printed in PLA on a FlashForge. There is a slight crack at the bottom of Bridalveil Creek caused by not using infill on the print.
