Summary

I needed a way to mount filament spools to the back of my MakerFarm Prusa i3. Lots of designs of thingiverse are either cumbersome, really flimsy or take up too much room.

My design is compact, efficient and does not extend the space taken by the printer. You can easily fit 2 spools on a 8 inch i3. This setup would be perfect for a dual extruder mod.

Printing

Print the both parts at at least 80%, its not worth the hassle of the thing breaking and dropping a heavy spool onto your print bed

Filament Guides

You will need some strong all purpose adhesive to attach the guides behind the screen. The guide should be attached centrally, Dont position the guide too close to the spool, doing so will cause it to be pulling filament laterally from the spool you want to be pulling the filament close to the direction it would natural unroll in.

If you are going for a dual spool setup place them 10cms apart and feed the filament from the left into the right guide so that they would be crossing over.

Spool mounts

The spool mounts hook over the top plate and should be placed in the far right or left corners. Its not necessary to glue the spool holders but i recommend it just incase the machine is accidentally knocked.

The mount is designed to be a tight fit, you may need to remove the top plate to fit the mount on.

Additionally you may need to cut a piece out of the triangular support frames if your spools are particularly wide and you don't want to cause additional wear on the extruder. (See the attached pictures)
