Summary

My car was designed to have wheels and a fan attached onto it. The car was made to work so i can attach the wheels underneath and have the fan ontop. The fan will push the air behind the car then the air will push the car back causing it to move forward. The overall goal to make it as fast as possible so we can measure the kinetic energy.

Project Requirements

The requirements for this project was to build and 3D print a car that could fit in a 6.50cm x 15.00cm x 4.00 cm box. The car also must fill the requirement of having solid sections at equal heights that are 5.80cm apart and at least 1.00cm high. It also needed to haves 0.35cm-wide holes to mount the wheels on to the car that is at least 7.00 cm apart. The car had to be able to have the wheels and the fan be attached. The car also needed a 0.23cm in diameter with a hole that is between 0.40cm and 0.50cm deep. This is so that we can put a metal rod in it that will be necacery to get the time of the car. Lastly, the back of the car had to be flat so that while it was being printed it didn't tip over.

Brainstorming and Design Process

After I had already brainstormed and sketched what I wanted my car to look I had to change a few things to make sure it would work properly and meet the requirements. First, I wanted to carve out the sides of my car to get rid of a lot of the mass. I learned I was unable to do that as I was designing it on onshape though because the fan would not have been able to clip on. I instead made two smaller cuts on either side of a platform so there would be space for the clips to go on. I also had to cut out. more of the bottom before I had finished designing it because how I had it, with the width at 5.80 cm, the wheels would have been interfered with by the side of the car. I had to bring the bottom part into 5.60cm so the wheels could easily spin but I also had to keep the top part at 5.80 cm so the fan could still connect.
