Summary

The function of the cart is to be propelled by a fan. This is done by mounting a fan on top and putting in wheels on the bottom. The fan pushes the air, causing the cart to move. The goal of the project was to design a fast and efficient car that we would also use to understand true conservation of energy.

Project Requirements and Constraints

The project requires a car to be designed to fit inside a 6.50cm x 15.00cm x 4.00cm box.

The cart must have solid sections at equal heights that are 5.80cm apart and at least 0.70cm high.

The bottom of the cart must have 0.35cm wide "doorway holes" that are at least 7.00cm apart and exactly 0.40cm tall to mount the wheels.

The vehicle also had to have a small hole, 0.205 in diameter, to hold a small vertical steel rod.

Overall Design Progress

First Designs

            <div><p>The first thing that popped up in my head when I heard "fast vehicle" was a bullet train. I knew that bullet trains were some of the fastest things on Earth, with a somewhat simple style, so I decided to design it based on one. The design consists of a curved end on the front and a giant rectangular hole in the middle and on each side that would take away a lot of mass. The rectangular holes on the sides also gave space to the wheels, making sure they don't rub on the cart and slow down. To allow the fan to have full airspace without being interfered with the cart, I designed two 0.10cm wide pillars to provide a high spot to mount the fan. </p></div>                <p class="detail-image"><img src="https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/81/9b/a4/dd/d6/IMG_0291.jpg"></p>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Changes Made</strong></p>            <div><p>After working on the cart with Onshape, I changed 2 parts of the design. </p><p>First, I decided to make the rectangular hole at the top more like an arc-shaped hole that would connect the edge of the rear of the cart to the being of the curve near the front. </p><p>Second, I moved the spot of the small hole for the steel rod from the back of the top of the cart to the section where the arc-shaped hole and the curve met.</p></div>

What You Need

            <div><p>In order the make this work, you need a fan that would be able to mount a 5.80cm wide cart.
