Summary

The function of the cart is to be able to have a fan and wheels attached to it. The fan will be clipped on the top of the cart, while the wheels are attached on the bottom of the cart. When the fan is turned on, the fan will push on the air and help the cart move forward. The overall goal of the project was to design a fast and efficient car and find out where all the lost energy goes during the conservation of energy.

Project Requirements and Constraints

            <div><ul><li>Your vehicles must fit within a 6.50cm x 15.00cm x 4.00cm box.</li><li>You must have solid sections at equal heights that are 5.80cm apart and at least 1.00cm high after filleting. These should be located in the front and rear in order to mount the fan. Each clip is 2.00cm long and the total distance between them is 7.00cm.</li><li>You must design 0.35cm-wide “doorway holes” to mount the wheels onto your car. They must be at LEAST 7.00cm apart, (measured from center to center), and EXACTLY 0.40cm from the bottom edge to the top of the arc.</li><li>The wheels are only 5.60cm wide and extend 1.35cm upward from the center of the arc that creates the axle hole.</li><li>Your vehicles must accommodate a small, vertical steel rod that is 0.23cm in diameter with a hole that is between 0.40cm and 0.50cm deep.</li><li>Your vehicle will be printed upright from rear to front in order to maintain strength. Therefore, the back of your vehicle must be flat, not curve upward/inward in this orientation, and minimize overhangs that would require supports in order to print successfully</li></ul></div>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Design Process</strong></p>            <div><p>I initially made the design for my car very simple, so I can have a base model to work with. My base design was essentially a rectangular prism with solid sections for the fan and a rounded or curved front to make it an aerodynamic design. I tried to make every measurement as small as possible so the mass of the cart will be as small as possible. After I finished designing the base design of my cart, I then proceeded to cut out as many parts of the cart as possible to lower the mass. When I cut out parts of the cart, I made sure I cut out an arc, to make the surface curve, and if there were any flat surfaces facing the front, I filleted them to make the surface rounded. I made three changes regarding measurements. First, I had to change the height of my solid section from 0.7 cm to 1.0 cm because when it was 0.7 cm, it was discovered that the height was too small. Second, I had to increase the diameter of a hole on the top of the car from 0.205 cm to 0.23 cm because the vertical steel rod that's needed didn't fit in a hole 0.205 cm in diameter. Lastly, I had to increase the length of my solid section to 10.44 cm because, with my original length, the fan was blocking the hole for the vertical steel rod.</p></div>                <p class="detail-image"><img src="https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/2f/48/62/70/a6/IMG_2214.JPG"></p>

Assembly Instructions

Take the wheels and attach them in the cutouts on the bottom of the cart
Take the fan and clip it on the solid sections on the top of the cart
