The Bar Magnet

The bar magnet is the first point of learning in electromagnetism. Much of the information related to magnetism is absorbed implicitly through sight - we see attraction and repulsion, we see the shape of field lines when we sprinkle iron filings around the magnet. This model aims to communicate that information using touch and description to aid the blind and visually impaired, whilst remaining informative for seeing students.

The pink and blue halves represent north and south poles of the magnet. The raised and lowered regions demonstrate the magnetic properties of the two (field lines travel from north to south).
