Summary

A marshmallow roasting stick on steroids. Roast up to three at a time. A gear system allows for even browning. The bamboo skewers on the end are replaceable. Wood and glue construction.

Instructions

I modeled it after I made it, so beware that the model might not match the picture exactly. The handle is 3/4 inch hardwood. All gears are birch plywood (about 1/4 inch). 1/4 inch dowels are used for all the shafts. The main support is 1/2 inch dowel. The gear housing is 3/8 spruce plywood, but if I was to do it again, I'd use thin hardwood stock for a nicer look. I used a few washers, but probably didn't need them. Everything is glued, but the two outside gears have a tiny metal pin though them and their shafts. I didn't want to use pins on the main shaft, as it can be under load and I didn't want to weaken the shaft. I put some paste wax on areas where wood moves against wood.

The small round bits were made by using a circle jig on a disc sander (1/4 inch dowel embedded in 3/4 inch MDF very near the edge). The stock was rough cut, placed on the jig's dowel, and the whole assembly pushed into the sander. The jig was then clamped and the stock rotated.

I used circles to represent the gears in the model. Actual gear templates can be created for free at woodgears.ca. I used 18 and 9 teeth for the handle gears and 8 teeth for the gears on the marshmallow end. I cut all gears with a drill and bandsaw. The handle gears need to be cut at a 10 degree angle.

The sticks the marshmallows are mounted on are skewers. They friction fit into the rest of the assembly.
