Summary

Here are three tilings for the 6x6 square. The tiling pieces are made of sub squares connected by edges. A set of 6 identical pieces composed of 6 sub squares and a set of 4 identical pieces composed of 9 sub squares are provided. The two sets can each be arranged to tile the 6x6 square. The sets were chosen so that if one takes two of the 9 piece tiles and three of the 6 piece tiles, this set of five pieces also tiles the 6x6 square. Openscad code is included.

These puzzles were found with the aid of a tiling program by dmoews. It is available as a compressed tar file, (tiling-002.tgz), at http://djm.cc/dmoews.html The program is multidimensional and works with squares, cubes, and hypercubes.rnrnThe image below shows, at the upper right, the 4 arranements of 6 squares for which sets of 6 identical pieces tile the 6x6 square and the 37 arrangements of 9 squares for which sets of 4 identical pieces tile the 6x6 square. The openSCAD code can create any of these 41 possible puzzles.
