Quadrupole North Top

Quadrupole magnets are an important part of particle accelerators, as they are used to focus the beam of particles. This model shows how there are four poles to the magnet, and how it can be used to focus particle beams. The quadrupole only focusses in one plane at a time, which can be seen from the beam piece. This is designed as a jigsaw, so students can fix the magnet for themselves. The pink and blue halves represent north and south poles of the magnet, as does the presence of either nobbles or dips.
