Summary

After forty years with the bank I didn't get a gold watch, I got a Replicator, so I decided to make myself the watch.

Inspired by VirgilVox's Makerbot watch (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:31902), I created this case and strap in Sketchup and inserted the works from my treasured timepiece that celebrates two (Ok, one) of today's great inventors and makers - Wallace and Gromit.

Instructions

Print, preferably in ABS (I tried with PLA, but the hinged parts proved to be very troublesome).

I used a 0.2mm thickness which seemed to work well.

There are three components and, not being an horologist, I don't know their proper names, so I call them the case (which includes the strap), the bezel and the infilling ring (I was doing well there until the end).

The strap prints in one piece and my experience is that the hinged pieces actually hinge as I lifted them off the build platform - no fiddling required.

If you don't use supports and there's little need, you might have to clean out the dangly bits from the underside of the hook part of the strap with a knife.

The works from the watch (including the little white support disk that holds the mechanism off the backplate in the original watch) get stuck in the bottom of the case with a bit of BluTac around the edge. Then the infilling ring sits on top of the face, making sure it doesn't foul the second hand as that sweeps around, so the ring and the BluTac hold the works in place at the bottom of the case.

I cut a piece of polycarbonate (very roughly using wire snips and sandpaper) to the size of the outside diameter of the case and that gets sandwiched between the case and the bezel to hold it in place.

I'm including the Sketchup file in case you need to adjust the size of the infilling ring or take out / put in extra links in the strap. The links are a Sketchup component, so just Ctrl/Move an existing one.
