LED Desk Lamp
I think this desk lamp is one of those things that delivers on the promise of 3D printers to manufacture custom products to improve our lives
My daughter hates the shadows cast by typical desk lamps, she hates the way they shine in her eyes, and she hates the heat given off by her halogen desk lamp. So she set out to design something better for her odd-sized 52" long homework desk. (It helped that it was an assignment for her class :)
The lamp uses a strip of LEDs and 1/2" fiberglass tubing. The self adhesive strip of LEDs are stuck to the top tube. The wires are run inside the tubing and out of one of the mounting brackets. The desk mounting brackets are designed to be a friction fit on the back corners of the desk.
I have 2 pictures of her presentation in class with all of the classroom lights turned off. (The class room tables are a different size than her desk, so she had to clamp it to the table in class.)
This design should be generalizable to any table size by simply changing the length of the fiberglass tubes and the depth of the lip that goes under the table top. If you would like to make one of these, let me know how thick your table top is, and I will make custom files for you.
