Wind turbine V4

I have build this turbine with the objective to produce electricity to charge small devices like smartphone or powering a led strip.
I can't use solar panel because my balcony is lit by the sun 4 hours per day. But luckily for me, i live near the sea and there is constant wind which coming with the tide, so i decided that building a wind turbine can be a good alternative.

This wind turbine is pretty reliable and robust, it survive many storms (wind > 110km/h !) with little damage (some nuts tend to loosen, they were remplace by nyloc).

This wind turbine starts with wind speed of 3m/s (approx .10km/h) with no load.
The measured torque on the shaft is approximately 0.25N.m at 20km/h wind. I think is sufficient to move a stepper motor to produce some electricity but it will increase the wind speed at which the turbine starts.

I am using stepper motor from Digikey (ref 1528-1062-ND) as generator and a full bridge rectifier to produce 12V, but you can adapt a motor from a broken printer for example. The transmission is a chain because I prefer components easy to find in a local shop,

The turbine produce approximately 11.5V, 2mA @15km/h wind speed (mesure with multimeter and anemometer), you can play with the gear ratio to reduce or increase the speed of the generator.

I haven't any charts for now but i ll work to record charts with some electronics, stay tuned !

I am still working to store produced electricity in a 12V battery and restore it in a load.

I've use Acrylic to make the blades, not for aesthetics purpose (even if it's looks great :)) but because my 3D printer can't print so large parts (Microdelta Rework, printable dimensions: Cylinder 150mm base, 200mm high).

Tools:

Scewdriver (Pozidriv or Phillips depending on M4 screw)Dremel (only if the blades are cut directly in acrylic)Saw to cut threaded rod or you can use Dremel

Components :

1.5mm Clear Acrylic Plastic Sheet, size A2Cyanolit Koltout Express, double-Sided adhesive,(only needed if blades are made of acrylic)4 Generic ball bearing 28x12x8 (choose IGUS BB-6001-B180-30-ES if possible but they are really expensive)Threaded Rod, M6, 3 meterThreaded Rod, M10, 1 meterM6 Nylon-insert lock nut -> qty 10M6 Nut -> qty 20M6 Washer -> qty 20M4x40 "Poelier" type Screw -> qty 10M4 nut -> qty 10M10 Nylon-insert lock nut -> qty 1M10 Nut -> qty 20M10 Washer -> qty 20Cable gland PG11 for the motor
