This model was made using Microsoft 3D Builder from a medium resolution sphere changing its diameters following the work of Leiva (2017). It is also included the two rings with the size from the paper of F. Braga-Ribas (2014).
The file's names explained:
name_1_x_10_y.stl is 1 : x * 10
y. So _1_6_10_7 is 1:600000000 or one in 60 million.
10199 Chariklo
Chariklo is the largest known centaur, and it is similar in several ways to the dwarf planet
Haumea. Both of them have a rapid rotation (7 hours for Chariklo and 6 for Haumea), a elongated ellipsoidal shape, product of their rotation speed, and a ring system; they are the smallest known object with rings. Chariklo has two rings, nicknamed Oiapoque, the inner, and Chuí, and it probably has shepherd moons that holds the rings in their places, similar tothat of the ring of Saturn. Like most of centaur it is though that it's original from the
Kuiper Belt or the Scatered Disk, and at some time in its history a huge impact make it rotate so fast and lost most of its material, in a similar way to Haumea. Centaurs have unstable orbits, because they cross the orbits of the gas planets. After a pair of million years, centaurs could come close enough to a planet to be disturbed and change its direction, becoming a short period comet, or been ejected from the Solar System. Chariklo orbits between
Saturn and
Uranus, reaching more closely the later, and it is though to be more stable than other centaurs, lasting, a half life, of 10 million of years. Its relative low mass makes it not likely to be in hydrostatic equilibrium (rounded).
