Omega Speedmaster Watch Model Display Base

Being a watch guy, I particularly enjoy collecting anything associated with Swiss watch mfrs. The Omega Speedmaster is a chronograph that became famous as the first watch worn on the moon. Since then, many variations of the Speedmaster have been introduced.

This is a 6" diameter (150 mm) model display base that can be used as a desktop conversation piece or even hung on the wall. Omega watch fans will enjoy the accuracy of the font that was used to create these parts.

The display base consists of three basic files; a) circular base, b) Omega font, and c) Speedmaster font. Ideally, you will want to print these separately in 3 different colors. If not, a suitable paint can be used to coat them in your favorite shade. I chose to mimic the Omega "Blue side of the moon" Speedmaster watch face; as the red and silver font colors really punch out of the dark blue circular base.

The fonts are printed inversely so that the finished side can be facing upwards. A little dab of CA adhesive will attach these pieces to the circular base. Both fonts have a slight negative rake to them so that there is no interference when fitting them to the circular base. There is a bit of trimming to do on each letter however, if you use Brim, the flash should easily remove with a small trimming knife.

Enjoy!
