LightSail Spacecraft Model, 1:10 scale
Make a model of The Planetary Society's LightSail. Drawn to one tenth scale.
Almost any hobby printer should be able to print the spacecraft portion of the model. The sail might be found at a craft store, the sail spars might be found at a hardware or hobby store.
This is designed based on available photos and videos posted by The Planetary Society.
I designed this about 18 months ago but hadn't gotten to painting it until a month before the launch of LightSail 2. I didn't design in the CD found on LightSail 2, that wasn't in the available media at the time I drew it. Also, some details aren't quite right but I felt the details won't come out well on a fused filament (FFF/FDM) style print. The print would be about 60mm tall when printed at 100% scale to the model file.
I included a STEP file and my original Alibre CAD file in case anyone wanted to refine any of the details in their favorite CAD program.
I'll work on adding the sail once I find a source for sail material. I had a sheet of silvered mylar perfectly sized for this model but I've since lost it. See post-printing section for more information on how to install the sail.
