Long Lens Adapter
I have a tiny tripod that I like to bring with me when I go backpacking, climbing, or anywhere I can’t afford to bring something larger. It’s great for its size and weight, and it sets up easily. The only problem is that it’s not very stable, particularly with longer lenses.
This adapter allows you to adjust the position of the camera body with respect to the tripod in order to shift the balance of the camera and accommodate long lenses. Adjustability is provided by way of a captive nut that lives inside the body of the adapter. The nut interfaces with the head of the tripod, and when it’s clamped, it fixes the position of the camera.
The adapter itself consists of two pieces that are bonded together - thus capturing the nut inside. A captive screw in the top interfaces to the camera; this screw is captured by another nut, which is itself retained by an O-ring.
Finally, a sleeve and detent on the side retains a 3/16 hex wrench for fastening a camera to the adapter.
