MPCNC, Modified Burly DW660 Lower tool holder

I’m finishing my MPCNC, and as I polish off the details, I have looked at many fantastic enhancements other have used on their builds. One of these was the removal of the tool-free “collet grip.” It is an excellent addition to the DeWalt DW660, but when hanging from the bottom of the Z-axis, this isn’t as nice as being on a job site. Like the author, I chose to remove mine and install the dust cover. See LINK for plans and notes.

While I was making the change out, I realized I could turn the internal plate 90 degrees, which places the locking button towards the front. I went ahead and assembled The DeWalt this way. When I installed the motor back on the gantry, I realized the tool holder wasn’t designed to allow this orientation. I have the Mostly Printed CNC -Add On- DeWalt DW660 Mount -Burly.

I like the idea of the forward-facing tool spindle lock, so I decided to modify Allted’s design. I made this modified DeWalt, DW660 tool holder bottom set to allow the tool to be orientated in any direction when the tool-free “collet grip” is removed.

I welcome feedback on the design and use.
