2X Extruder Upgrade for Raffle Alu-Cooling Block and Hot End
I have installed Carl/Raffle's Alu-Dual Hot End & Cooling Block Upgrade http://shop.raffle.ch/shop/ and I needed some modifications to get mcniff's extruder upgrade http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:222667 working. What I did:
- Added slight extrusion under stepper gear to help guide filament into the hole and to help prevent flexible filament from feeding/jamming under it (idea from thing 404636).
- made opening for stepper gear slightly larger for better fit with the new guide-extrusion (I didn't want to have to remove the gear and get it re-aligned again).
- Made the back indent slightly larger so it prints as a better fit over the stepper without needing a lot of sanding/finishing.
- The important part! I adjusted the gap under the feed hole so it fits over the nut on the new Alu Hot End.
Some other designs removed a few mm of width to the assembly so it fits flush with the stepper and feeds directly into the hot end, but read Carl's instructions with the cooling block, you see that the spacer wasn't added to make it fit, it was added to intentionally force a gap between the cooling block and the stepper.
Just note that if you cannot get longer mounting screws, you will have to discard the fan cover on the 2x. (fyi: Fastenal carries the long m3 screws needed. They may not be in stock, but they can order them for you :D)
mcniff's http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:237554 works much better than the arms in the original.
