Summary

A simple X-Y table made from 6mm MDF- useful for those needing 2 axis movement for own build printers etc. Can be mounted horizontally or vertically.

Instructions

To build this table you'll need the following plastic/wood parts
4x LM8UU_End_Upright_RH
4x LM8UU_End_Upright_LH
8x LM8UU_End_Upright_Clamp_single (the part file is for a pair so you'll only need 4 pairs)
2x LM8UU_Side_Plate_Single_Axis
1x LM8UU_Side_Plate_Dual_Axis

You'll also need:
4x Rolled Steel Angle 30x3x? Length to suit your needs
4x 8mm steel bright bar (or ground rod if you fancy). Length to suit your needs
8x LM8UU linear bearings
28x M6x25 hex head bolts (Socket heads look better though) (+4 to fit a work table, but the length will be different)
28x M6 nuts (preferably square to avoid using tools) (+4 to fit a work table)
28x 6mm Washers (+4 to fit a work table)
12x M4x12 hex head bolts (Socket heads look better though)
12x M4x40 hex head bolts

Linear Motion- Up to you really. The table is designed to use standard M8 threaded rod with steppers/ small DC motors on the outside of the frames. If using this method you'll need
2x Drive Motors
2x M8 Threaded Rod (length to suit)
2x Drive nuts (I've made mine from plastic board)
Nuts/washers to react forces back into the supports

All in all, a very simple item to make. Build as follows:

Assemble each of the end supports together (1x LH and 1x RH) using the short M4 bolts (if using MDF there is no need to cut threads into the parts).
Assembly the centre plate assembly with the linear bearings using the long M4 bolts. Sequence of assembly is pretty straight forward; start with a "single" plate, add the bearings (4 no.), add the "dual" plate, add the next layer of bearings (perpendicular to the first), add the final "single" plate and bolt everything together. As before, if you're using MDF, just let the bolt cut a thread as it goes through.
Cut the RSA and rods to the desired length.Can't help you here, but I used 300mm lengths. You'll also need to drill a 6.5 mm hole in each end of the angle coincident with the holes in the end supports.
Fit one pair of linear rods into central carriage
Using the M6 bolts, washers and nuts, fit the end supports to the RSA. Place the nuts in the slots in the end supports and feed the bolts (with washers) through the angle, through the end support assembly and into the nut.
Place the carriage/rod assembly into the saddles in the end supports. Add the clamp pieces and bolt up using M6 bolts- same technique as previously used. Note;- I opted for an underslung arrangement (its a little more stable).

Congratulations! that's one axis complete

Add the second pair of rods to the carriage.
Add the other end support-RSA assembly to the rest of your creation.
Finally, Add your drive system.

The boring bits (sorry).
Iâ€™m using LM8UU bearings from a certain online auction site. Iâ€™ve noticed that some bearing manufacturers have different sizes. I suggest that you check what bearing sizes youâ€™ve got and change the source file to suit.
I've doubled up on the clamps for a little more grip (its not really required but I was also short on the correct length of M6 bolt).
Because of the slenderness of the 8mm rods, and the lack of separation of the rods, this table isn't up to heavy milling but I'm sure someone has a use for it- even if it's just as something to do over the weekend.
