Landing Skids (Collapsible)
Collapsible landing skids designed for a mini-h frame. Top two pieces have pins which allow the each skid to be rotated and collapsed for transportation.
Originally designed to keep the propellers out of the grass on launch, and to avoid general moisture from grass or snow. The was designed for the BAH Nemesis, but can be adapted by adjusting length of 3mm CF rods, aluminum tubes or bamboo skewers (for modeling). Use basic nylon cable clamps to secure to arm bolt.
Only leg tubing is required, but creating a frame strengthens the rigidity of the frame.
Additional Hardware:
- M4 or M3 screw, washer and hex nut (depending on type attachment point of arm).
- 3mm CF Rod or Aluminum tubing. Bamboo skewers are easy to work with for determining optimal length tubing for skids.
For the Nemesis: 6mm legs (qty 8) , 12.5mm hinge tube (qty 2), 15mm bottom (qty 2). - Hot glue, epoxy... etc.
Print Instructions:
- Choose Hinge / Clamp suitable for frame hardware (M3 or M4) then pick STL orientation which provides the strongest print.
Installation:
- Utilize existing frame hardware for attaching arms. Alternatively drill new holes.
- Determine top and bottom pairing of printed parts (look for the "O" on the side of the flange).
- Dry fit all tubing for fit. Flanges on printed part face outward.
- Use hot glue, epoxy to secure tubing into boots
- Fit cable clamp over hinge pins. Rounded side of hinge towards skid.
- Attach skid system to frame. Use existing arm hardware through cable clamps.
To-Do Ideas:
- Develop a lightweight crude retraction with bungie, or silicone tubing. Good for launch and low profile when flying. Bad for landing.
- Make asymmetrical boots and hinge.
- Make variation of boot to accommodate a through hole design for longer bottom tubes.
