My variation on the iris box that uses gears to drive the blades.

I wanted an iris box that worked with gears so I could open and close it with a servo. This is my first attempt and is still rough. But mechanically it does work so I wanted to upload it and let others make derivatives if they want. I made nut traps but I made them pentagons instead of hexagons so they are pretty useless. The base is thicker than it needs to be too. I used the greg frost gear scripts to make the gears http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3575. A few things I figured out that can help others do the same. You need a radius on the small gears that allow the iris to be the correct size. The distance from one iris blade's axis to the outside edge of the adjacent blade's gear should be close to the distance from the blade's axis to the middle of the box. The number of teeth in your outer gear should be a multiple of 5. This will let you design one blade in blender and then spin duplicate it. It also allows the blades to be interchangeable. Otherwise you would have to number the blades and install them in exact order.
There is a spot for a 6th axis. If you just print one of the gears from the blades you should be able to drive the whole box with a servo. This hasn't been tested yet as I wanted to do a quick mechanical test and didn't design a servo mount.
