Summary

This is a simple project to make a shoerack out of cheap, readily-available materials. The only 3d printed part is a clip to bind everything together.

What I love about this project is that it's simple, cheap, and aesthetically playful.

Materials

For the tubes, I used concrete forming tubes. Make sure you compare the individual tubes you're buying at the store since they don't always match up exactly. You may have to pull out several to find a few that are close enough.

To attach the tubes, you can just use regular binder clips available at any office supply store.

I decided that I wanted the clips to match the tubes (which I painted white externally), but white binder clips are hard to come by. So, I ended up printing out clips (model file attached) and used white filament to get the look I was going for.

Assembly

Cut the concrete tubes into ~1ft lengths. I used a carpenter's knife for this step, and it was a pain. If you have a band saw at your disposal, I highly recommend using it.
Use an exacto or carpenter's knife to clean up the edges of the tubes.
Paint the tubes. I used basic house paint here - white for the exteriors, and a wedge of 3 different greens for the interior. You'll want to use at least two coats.
After the paint dries, assemble the tubes in a hexagonal pattern, adding a clip at every junction between two tubes.
