Door Handle Stress Teaching Aid

The "door handle" problem is a common example used for teaching combined stress analysis in mechanical design courses. The combination of axial, bending, torsional shear and transverse shear stress requires students to visualize the loads transferred from the tip to the section of interest. I created this to help students with this visualization. It features holes for toothpicks to represent forces and holes for eraser fragments to represent stress elements. There is enough tolerance so the erasers fragments can deform a bit to show the stresses on them.
