R2D2 Revised

The original model was pretty neat, but I wanted a little more detail, and I wanted it able to be printed without additional support so I tweaked it up a bit.
It prints really well and can be scaled down in Repitier to a fairly small size - I printed it as a Star Wars Monopoly piece at .2 as well as full size and both look good...

I did run it through Nettfabb Cloud repair once just to make sure the original pieces were clean.

<Revised 2016>

I finally found some affordable wood filament and decided this model needed to be printed in wood. In the course of doing that, I determined I wanted a little more of the missing detail (ports, marks, etc.) so I revised the model. Biggest additions are the antenna toward the back of his head. I also added some support structure to the legs which is NOT original but helps being able to print this smaller and makes it a bit more robust..

The pictures are the wood filament printed at .6 scale. It looks much better in real life than the pictures show as the closeup shows the marks and dust from cleaning up the "stringies" the wood filament seems to get more than PLA.

It is an improvement I think...
