Summary

Insert for multi-well plates to function as a multi-strainer, after nylon mesh is melted to the ends with a hot plate.

Can be used to quickly and easily transfer contents from one multi-well plate to another, rinse contents and then place back into multi-well plate, etc.

Slight adjustments may have to be made switching from one brand of plate to another, as plate dimensions will not be 100% consistent.

Post-Printing

Melt nylon mesh to strainer

            <div><ol><li>Use a hot-plate at medium heat -- should be hot enough to melt the PLA, but not so hot as to melt the nylon mesh without pressure applied. Enough heat to melt the nylon when pressure is applied makes for a better seal, but is tricky to achieve without melting the mesh lying on the plate. Melting only the PLA works, too, but more material needs to be melted to achieve a good seal.</li><li>Place aluminum foil on the hotplate, and a rectangle of nylon mesh (roughly the same size as the strainer) on top of the foil.</li><li>Place the strainer down on mesh and apply pressure as evenly as possible.</li><li>Watch for the PLA to melt at the mesh across the whole plate -- it's easy to melt the edges without getting a good melt toward the center if you're not careful.</li><li>Once enough PLA has melted to create a good seal around every well, remove strainer from heat.</li><li>Wait to solidify, then remove foil (which will be melted to the mesh at this point). Generally comes off the foil much easier than the strainer. If gaps are present after this step, feel free to reapply to heat to get a better seal.</li><li>Cut out well inserts using dissecting scissors or a scalpel/razor blade.</li></ol></div>
