The Problem:

I'm currently working on making my shop more dust collection friendly, but I'm not operating any kind of fancy vacuum system. I have a nicely powered shop vac, and would like to leverage it as the main driver of my dust collection system.

While I could order something like this, I'm not in a rush and decided to use this an opportunity to practice my maker skills. I fired up Fusion360 and in about 10 minutes, I had a nice part that was ready to print.

Result:

A simple mounting plate for that can be used by pretty much any shop vac - not to shabby right?!

Future Enhancements:

I would like to build an additional attachment that would act as a gate for this so that i can focus the vacuum accordingly. Instead of a simple slide shutoff, I'd like to see if I could build a n automated gate system using an arduino and small servos. I've see a few examples of systems like this and I think I could do some nice optimizations for this.
