Taig lathe carriage stop
This is a 3D printed Carriage stop for the Taig micro lathe.
It is a split design that self aligns. You can also add a spring to make it spring loaded so that it self releases when the screw is loosened
What you need to complete.
- 10-24 3" or greater screw (I bought mine at home depot)
- 10-24 butterfly nut
- A washer
- 7mmx21mm diameter compression spring (optional)
Tools
- 10-24 tap
- Drill/Driver/Screwdriver
Notes
The spring is optional. There's a 8mmx12mm slot between the 2 halves where a spring can be mounted. When used, the clamp will self release when butterfly but is loosened. With the spring though, I found that 3" long screw is just sufficient. I think a 3-1/4" screw would be great.
The half section with V valley in it has a small diameter hole to allow a 10-24 tap to make threads. This section has a recessed hole for the screw head. The PLA plastic is soft enough that the screw itself might thread the plastic without a tap, if done slowly.
- The 10-24 screw might fit a bit tight into the hole in the half section with the V mountain. You can use a 13/64" drill to clean it up.
