"Wooden" handle for lock picks from Law Lock Tools
This handle exactly fits "Pro" or "Lite" lock picks from Law Lock Tools, Ltd. (https://www.lawlocktools.co.uk). Print the left and right halves of the handle and then attach to the pick using M2 4mm nuts and bolts. The handles are sharp edged, with the intention that once printed you can sand and round them to your preference.
I printed the handles on wood PLA (using a 6mm nozzle), but you can print them on regular PLA, PETG or whatever you want, and then paint them and finish them with alcohol ink to simulate wood grain, as described here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NBW7uJnJGo. (I wasn't happy with the final look of the wood PLA so I followed a similar process to add a wood grain effect.)
The main photo shows the handles after being sanded and then finished. This is how they were finished:
- First the handles were sanded with 150 grit sandpaper to round the edges
- Two coats of Behr water-based stain & poly were applied and allowed to dry, to seal the wood PLA and provide a base for the alcohol ink
- Wood grain was simulated by brushing on different shades of brown alcohol ink
- Once the ink was dry, Krylon Kamar varnish was sprayed on to seal the ink
- Finally the handles were lightly sanded with 1000 grit sandpaper.
