Summary

I decided to upgrade my old drill press with a crosshair LED Laser module made from 2 line LED modules. The Thing is made from 2 parts: the LED module holder positioned on the upright column and the battery holder with a switch fixed to the motor mount of the drill press with tie wraps.
I printed all in PETG on my Elegoo Neptune 4 in fine setting.

Post-Printing

After printing all parts, I wired everything as can be seen on the picture. Yes I am aware that I 'misused' one of the outer terminals of the switch for the negative (ground) wire. but Hey! it works. I just had to put the switch in the opposite direction as you would normally use it (battery plus is going to the outside terminal, the middle terminal goes to the LEDs). it saved me another welding connection or even a separate groud terminal.

after assembly the battery holder and the clamp, you need to focus the line LEDs and to position them to the drilling tip. for that take the smallest drill and a piece of scrap wood. clamp it to the drill press and drill a small hole. align the lasers.
when you put the drill down, you will also see the shade of the drill in the laser beams to fine tune.
then screw everyting fixed.

remember to wear protective goggles. Laser is dangerous to your eyes.

Tip: first focus the lenses of the LED modules and secure them with some tape before you do tha assembly. focussing later is still possible but a little fumbling if your fingers are as thick as mine.

How I Designed This

I designed the LED holder from scratch in Fusion 360, starting with the 46mm clamp around the drill upright. then I added the 12mm LED line module holders.
The clamp is fixed with a M5 screw and nut, the 2 LED holders are fixed with 3mm screws and nuts.
I noticed that the inlays for the M3 nuts are a little shallow, probably anothe 0.2mm would have been more convenient so you do not have to hold the nut in place.
for the battery holder I made a remix of one of the various battery holders available on Thingyverse. I wanted to have an integrated switch, so I added a compartment with a snap on lid where a 8x13mm tumble switch fits in.
I also changed the sliding piece of the holder to have it better printed in place.
Additional I made some attachment points for the tie-raps to go over, one at the bottom and one under the lid.
